A Goretex jacket is generally accepted as being the best way to keep dry on a motorcycle. There are many imitations of Goretex on the market, and in fairness some of them do a reasonable impersonation of the real thing, but if you want the best (and who doesn’t?) then a real Goretex jacket is the way to go.
Whilst the basic material of Goretex is relatively simple, what isn’t are the strenuous checks made at every step of production to ensure that every garment bearing the Goretex name is the best it can be. From thorough testing of pre-production samples to random sampling of the final product, on a regular basis, every Gore tex jacket can be purchased with confidence knowing that Gore doesn’t allow their name to be used on inferior jackets.
If it was purely a game of waterproofing then a cheap plastic liner (as used by some manufacturers!) will do the job just fine, but as anyone who has tried using diesel gloves to keep their hands dry will know, the clammy, sweaty and cold feeling is truly horrible and not something you aspire to. It’s all about the breathability and this is where a Gore Tex jacket wins every time.
Goretex is a material which has millions of microscopic holes in it, too small for even the smallest water drop to penetrate, but just big enough that the much smaller sweat molecules coming off of you can escape.
Gore tex jackets have a much longer guarantee than their cheap imitators, and whilst it varies slightly between each manufacturer our Rukka range is covered for five years from date of purchase, and they offer a loan service to use whilst yours is away being tested should you have a problem.
As well as Rukka we stock ladies and men’s Goretex jackets from other great names such as Dainese, Bering and Alpinestars.
If you want to find an unbiased review of a Gore tex jacket simply ask someone who owns or at least uses one, such as a an Ambulance rider who is running around in Goretex all day long and genuinely testing it to the limits.
