Over the past few years Shoei have introduced new helmets with clear goals, including the X-Spirit 2, Shoei's premium racing helmet, the XR1100, the sports-touring helmet and now the new Shoei Qwest, which Shoei have designed to be the ultimate touring helmet. The name with the new Qwest was to find the best balance between comfort, quietness and light weight, making the Qwest helmet a pleasure to wear on long days spent motorcycle riding.
With a lightweight "Advanced Integrated Matrix" multi composite shell and a wind tunnel developed shell, neck strain is reduced, with four shell sizes providing optimum fit and no excess mass in the smaller sizes. Advances in shell material have allowed a new, bigger visor opening compared to the Shoei Raid 2 that the Qwest replaces.
Inside the helmet, the EPS lining is made in two densities to provide optimum protection, Cheek pads are available in six different sizes and the cheek pads and chin strap cover can be removed for cleaning. Wind tunnel developed ventilation further improves comfort and vent operation is easy, even with thick motorcycle gloves.
The new visor still uses Shoei's excellent quick release mechanism, with the addition of a spring mechanism that pulls the visor into the shell, sealing out noise and drafts, as well as removing any need for adjustment. A Pinlock ant mist insert is included.
We recommend the Shoei Qwest, if you are looking for a high quality crash helmet, comfortable enough to be worn all day. Shoei have a reputation for quality and reliability which is well founded; for example, every shell is signed by the employee responsible for it.
