When it comes to protection there is pretty well nothing on the market that can match the performance and style, of a good set of motorcycle leathers.
This is proved repeatedly every weekend at race meeting across the world, where riders with endless opportunity’s to wear something else turn up week in, week out on the grid wearing leather.
Manufacturers have spent countless sums and countless hours attempting to develop something which is as functional as motorbike leather, and whilst there are myriad synthetic fibres available none of them can ultimately match the abilities of motorcycle leather.
Full motorbike leathers are available in one and two piece designs and your choice should be based on what motorcycle leather suits your individual needs. If it’s a race motorbike leather suit you’re after then it has to be a one piece design, but unless you’re planning on spending your weekends actually racing then we generally recommend a two piece design.
A good set of motorcycle leathers will feature a full length zip which means that the jacket and trousers can be joined together to help provide a bit more protection. These are usually accepted as the minimum standard for track day use. If you’re buying separate motorcycle leather jacket and trousers then make sure when you buy them that the connecting zips line up properly. It’s very rare that two different manufacturers will have matching zips. Ones that might be the same pitch but will do up in opposing directions is just one area where we’ve seen people get caught out.
Obviously there are different types of leather used in the production of motorbike leathers, good old cow being the most popular as it’s widely available and provides an excellent basic material. Kangaroo hide is used in the panels and occasionally the entirety of some suits, but Kangaroos sweat through their tails - so the hides aren't porous and therefore not breathable. There is certainly no shortage of Kangaroos though as they are in plague proportions in parts of the sunburnt country.
At Infinity motorcycles we stock a huge range of motorbike leathers from respected manufacturers such as Dainese, Alpinestars, RST, Bering and Spada amongst others.
