If you park outside there are a number of reasons to throw a motorbike cover over your motorbike. Obviously there’s the desire to keep assorted detritus off of your pride and joy, particularly acidic bird droppings which can ruin your paintwork in no time. There’s also the very real security benefit motorbike covers offer as the casual tea leafs magpie like eyes will not be drawn so readily to an anonymous covering as they will to a shiny new two wheeler.
These days’ motorbike cover are made from weather resistant plastics which will keep your motorbike dry and protected without scratching it in a gale. As with everything the more you spend the more you get but if you plan to use your motorbike cover every night then it’s worth investing in a decent motorbike cover which will give you many years of service.
Cheap motorbike covers cost less for a reason, they made of lesser materials, you have to wait for your bike to cool right down before throwing them over, they may not have a strap to go under the bike to help the cover secure, and they often lack reinforced slots to put a lock through which will provide security for the cover as well as the bike.
Better motorbike cover such as the Oxford stormex range can be thrown over a hot bike and will also allow the bike to ‘breath’ under the motorbike cover which means that condensation which can attack the motorbike and cause moisture related problems such as corrosion and hard starting, will not be a problem. In fact the stormex is the only motorbike cover to have been awarded the coveted ‘Ride recommended’ triangle.
Indoor motorbike covers are great if you want to keep the dust off of your ‘Sunday best’ but are not much use in the great outdoors.
