In the war on saving weight and in a bid to improve ground clearance, manufacturers stopped fitting centre stands to motorcycles. This is all very well, but the practicalities of routine maintenance and motorcycle cleaning are made difficult when you have to roll your motorbike back and forward to get to the whole chain with your motorcycle chain lube or clean the last lot of lube that went everywhere from your back wheel.
This is where paddock stands come in. Conventional rear paddock stands come in two basic varieties. Paddock stands with cups fit under the swingarm – better ones like the Oxford paddock stand have thumbscrews that can be tightened, keeping the cups at the same width, making them easier to use.
The second variety of conventional paddock stand uses fork or hooks and bobbins fitted to the swingarm to lift the motorbike. These are particularly useful on motorbikes where the swingarm is not even or has a curve.
Motorbikes with single sided swingarms are catered for too. Motrax Accessories own single sided paddock stand can be used on motorbikes with both left and right entry hubs, and the range of adaptors covers pretty much all motorcycles with single sided swingarms, from Ducati 1098’s to BMW GS’s.
