Kriega is a British company from Chester. Kriega was founded in 1999 when Dom Longman and Michael Cottam, who had a background in outdoor kit, drew on their love of motorcycling to build a company that would design and make tough, well-made motorcycle luggage of the highest quality. All Kriega products are designed in-house, with an emphasis on hard-wearing quality and ease of use.
How Kriega See Themselves
Kriega received a Ride kit award in 2011 as recognition for their long-standing commitments to quality luggage and accessories. After receiving the award, design director Dom Longman said, "We invest a lot of time in design and testing because we're not a fashion brand. We build things to last and don't release anything until its right." Some other manufacturers think of luggage as a simple accessory, buy their range from China, rebrand the cheaply-made luggage as their own brand, and sell the end product as though it were designed and made entirely within the company.
Talking about the Kriega backpack range, Dom attributes its popularity to the way in which the weight seems to disappear when wearing it. "We worked hard to design a strap system that took all the strain out of the shoulders and neck so that it was comfortable to wear over long distances."
Kriega At Infinity
The Kriega range of rucksacks can often be seen on the way in to Infinity Motorcycle Stores, as lots of our staff use them personally. This means our staff can answer a lot of specific questions about the product from personal experience.
It’s difficult to explain without a physical demonstration how much better than a normal rucksack a Kriega rucksack is. There’s obvious things like the harness that shifts the weight, avoiding lower back pain, the patented adjustment clips that prevent loose straps flying in the wind, or the sheer quality and feel of everything Kriega make.
What really sets these products apart is the amount of thought that goes into everything, from the grippy mesh on the base of the Kriega US-30 tail pack to the US Hook and its new way of attaching to motorcycles which were never designed with luggage in mind. The intelligence of Kriega's design is not always apparent until you’ve used their motorcycle luggage for little while. Cleverly designed roll tops are used to keep the contents completely dry.
Because it's hard to explain exactly what the Kriega difference is over the internet, we would recommend that customers visit their nearest Infinity Motorcycles Store before making a purchase.
Enduro Racing To Consumer Facing
Kriega's heritage lies in enduro racing, meaning that Kriega luggage is designed to with stand far more mud, rain, crash and general wear and tear than any road rider will ever dish out, so the build quality far exceeds any products made solely for the road riding market.
Kriega have also taken their experience and skill into adventure luggage. Since January 2012, Kriega have offered a range of soft panniers that can fit to popular enduro and adventure bikes, such as the BMW GS. Lighter and cheaper than the heavy metal boxes that dominate the market, they consist of four minibags rather than two big bags. The inspiration for this range is the way the military organises their kit, optimised for flexibility and effectiveness in the real world with a modular design that allows different setups for different situations.
Kriega spends a lot of time contemplating the problem before delivering the solution. Its intention is to be invisible. "We never design a new product that doesn't work with the old. We always try to design kit that's interchangeable." Kriega's design director believes that product is king, saying "We think that if we build a good product then it well sell itself." In fact, the company has hardly any returns – as Dom says, “We test things to destruction, and if we think anything is going to fail then it'll be reinforced to make sure it doesn't happen." At Infinity we can back this claim up as our returns rate to Kriega are probably the lowest of any product. We tend to find that if it ever comes back it will be in the first week due to a manufacturing fault and quickly resolved.
Kriega are also prepared to put their money with their mouth is, guaranteeing (for ten years!) that you are getting the best possible product. They don't compromise in any way.
Recommended Kriega Kit
In terms of recommended Kriega kit, our staff will know which piece fits your needs the best, but there are some approximate recommendations we can make that will suit most riders. If you're not sure, then ask in one of our shops!
The Kriega R35 Rucksack is designed for incredible stability as well as rugged survivability. If you're currently experiencing neck strain, or your rucksack seems to shift around on occasion, the Kriega R35 rucksack could completely change your riding experience.
If you're looking to take advantage of Kriega luggage's flexibility and modularity, then the Kriega Overlander 60 Panniers could be for you. The Overlander 60 is a complete pannier and platform combination that allows you to carry up to four Overlander 15 panniers, or (for example) swap out one Overlander 15 pannier for a fuel canister and a water canister. Alternatively, one of Kriega's Combo Packs gives fantastic carrying capacity while allowing for superior flexibility of arrangement and real-life practicality.
Finally, additional versatile carrying capacity comes in the form of the Kriega R8 Waistpack, which comes with ultra tough construction and a total of 8 litres of extra, unobtrusive, carrying capacity.
Choosing Kriega Luggage
You can buy from our online store with confidence, as our excellent customer service and returns policy means that you can expect to return unsuitable or faulty goods quickly if the need arises. However, we would always recommend trying out our goods in the store before buying.
Trying out gear in our real world shops means that you can take advantage of our staff members' experience and expert advice. It also means you can try on and feel the equipment yourself, especially important when the gear's most important attributes are stability and comfort.
Find your local Infinity store to meet up with our helpful, knowledgeable staff. Our staff ride themselves, so you can always expect an informed personal opinion as well as a good broad understanding of the kit.
