Schuberth C4 Pro Carbon - Delta
Lightweight design, high-performance aerodynamics and an interior BMW would blush at: the Schuberth C4 Pro Carbon is the definitive flip-front for modern touring. Dubbed the "benchmark for the most demanding tourers and riders" by Schuberth themselves, the German manufacturer has a lot to live up to, especially as a follow-up to a helmet they made two years prior.
While not exactly a direct successor to the C4, the C4 Pro Carbon can be described as a 1.5 model of the original flip-front Schuberth released in 2017. Upon release, riders applauded the helmet's solid structure and safety features, the C4 was also one the noisier flip-fronts on the market, and questions where asked about the communication kit's integration. Simple to say, the reception was mixed.
With an updated 2019 version, Schuberth has achieved what they originally set out to do. While the changes to the C4 are mostly "quality of life" improvements, as a whole, Schuberth knocks it out the park the second time around, producing a super lightweight flip-front and one of the most comfortable modular helmets you'll wear this year.
Developed using Schuberth's own Direct Fiber Processing technology, the C4 Pro Carbon has a 100% full carbon shell with an EPS multi-density layered inner shell, enabling for optimal impact absorption and shock resistance. What Schuberth have improved upon is the rounder shape of the inner shell, compared to the oval shape of the original C4, allowing for a more lightweight shell without affecting its performance.
In terms of weight, this results in the C4 Pro Carbon models being noticeably lighter than their 2017 counterpart, and even the C4 Pro. While the C4 weighed in around 1.66kg and the C4 Pro comes in at 1.5kg - the C4 Pro Carbon is even lighter at just 1400 grams! Compared to other modular helmets on the market (the Neotec 2 weighs 1750g for reference) the difference is practically night and day, and you're guaranteed to feel less strain on your neck over long rides.
Schuberth develops their helmet shells in their wind tunnel facility, which allows for continuous testing throughout the design process to ensure the helmet is as stable and carries less drag and uplift as possible. Case input: the C4 Pro Carbon is a dream to wear at even the highest speeds and strongest winds: you will notice improved contact pressure, directional stability, and no buffeting and uplift.
The C4 Pro Carbon has an Öko-Tex 100 certified interior lining, which is basically a new Coolmax interior which we can only liken to velvet against your face and is easily one of the most comfortable helmets you will ever wear, let alone a flip-front! The helmet has a seamless head padding with integrated grooves for glasses should you need them, and incorporates the usual modern amenities including quick-drying and anti-bacterial properties, as well as being removable and washable for years of maintenance.
In terms of ventilation, Schuberth has optimised the Schuberth C4 Pro Carbon's airflow and ventilation systems thanks to their wind tunnel. Inlets located at the forehead and lower visor areas of the shell ensure optimal circulation without discomfort. The C4 Pro Carbon provides steady air throughout your journey, featuring a complex multi-channel system for intaking and venting air throughout your face.
One common complaint about the original C4 was its noise: to combat this, Schuberth has made various changes rectify this. A major factor of this noise came from the visor release mechanism which let in outside air: to combat this, Schuberth have developed a new, glove-friendly closure system in the chin part and top of the helmet which is far stronger, stable, and more importantly - drastically quieter, As a result of this and the optimised neck padding, the Schuberth C4 Pro Carbon is easily one of the quietest helmets you'll find in a modular helmet. Schuberth claims the C4 Pro Carbon achieved approximately 85 dB at 100km/h on a naked motorcycle, but we reckon the majority of your journeys will be mostly silent even without earplugs!
The C4 Pro Carbon is installed with a Pinlock branded Anti-Fog insert that gives the rider a wide field of vision while being easy to use and resistant to scratches. After feedback from the original C4, Schuberth has reverted to the original Pinlock branded lens, rather than incorporating their own branded visors after customer feedback, and also features a built-in sun visor, deployable via an easy-to-use mechanism located on the side of the helmet.
Newly optimized for more effective communication, the C4 Pro Carbon incorporated a new placement of the mic as well as the new lining for isolating the pick up of noise from the mic. This reworked mic integration also means the kit doesn't rattle around and is more fixed to the structure of the shell.

Schuberth helmets were founded in the 1920’s in Braunschweig, Germany. They produce over 1.5 million helmets each year, both under their own brand name and also as BMW brand helmets. A renowned leader in Formula 1 auto helmets, they also supply to 65 armies worldwide, national fire services as well as industry specific headgear for mining, construction, oil/gas, steel, forestry and energy. All of these require exacting professional standards for their specific needs, and for that reason Schuberth have an enviable breadth and depth of manufacturing and engineering experience.
From F1 To SR1
Schuberth often bring their engineering insights from working on different helmets for different industries to bear on their motorcycle helmets. Probably the best example of this is their SR1 helmet range, inspired by their Formula 1 range and designed in close collaboration with Michael Schumacher himself.
These supersport helmets are beautifully designed with a solid feel to every part of the helmet, from the shell itself to the way the moving parts click smoothly and effectively into place. Comfort and durability are both very high quality, and of course they benefit from the most unique feature of Schuberth helmets – they are extremely quiet at high speeds.
Silence At Speed
Schuberth helmets are one of very few manufacturers who have a dedicated wind tunnel in which to test their helmets. During testing, Schuberth helmets are not only optimised aerodynamically but also aero-acoustically too. That is to say that not only does the wind tunnel ensure that your Schuberth helmet remains stable at speed but also remains as quiet as they can possibly be. The current C3 Pro flip front helmet for example has a noise level of less than or equal to 82dB(A) at a constant 100km/h setting a new benchmark for the whole industry.
That's especially good news for riders with tinnitus or sound sensitivity, as we know that ear plugs cannot be relied on to completely protect your hearing in all circumstances.
It's much more than just a helmet for protecting damaged ears, though – without earplugs or helmet, wind noise alone can reach 115 decibels on a motorbike, as much as a loud rock concert. Since decibels are measured in a logarithmic way, this is a huge difference! Logarithmic measurements are like the Richter scale (used to measure earthquakes) and that means that:
Moving from 10 decibels to 20 decibels means that a sound is about 10 times more intense.
Moving from 90 decibels to 100 decibels also means that a sound is about 10 times more intense.
A Schuberth C3 Pro flip front helmet is therefore nearly 2000 times less intense than unfiltered wind noise!
That means that a C3 Helmet is useful for safeguarding your hearing before you hearing can be damaged by excessive and continuous exposure to loud noises. As well as being exceptionally aerodynamic and quiet, the C3 range is also notable for being incredibly light, making it a great choice of helmet if comfort is of high importance to you.
It is no accident that Schuberth work with BMW so well; they are a great partnership, both offering high quality German engineering with a focus on providing understated luxury and comfort in addition to the features you expect from a high-end product.
Schuberth Helmet Extras
Schuberth have a few extras that help their helmets stand out from their competitor ranges.
The Anti-Roll-Off-System or A.R.O.S. is a safety feature that is included in every Schuberth helmet, and makes sure that the chinstrap is closed and safely adjusted. The A.R.O.S. means that the helmet cannot pivot off the head from behind and is less likely to cause damage or come into contact with vulnerable areas during a crash, which is important for safety.
Reflex pads also demonstrate Schuberth's commitment to safety, as reflective "Reflex" areas ensure that the motorcyclist is easy to identify and avoid in dark conditions. Early recognition and recognition from a way off means that passive safety is greatly improved by these areas.
Working its way through the planning and design stages for years to ensure it is exactly as good as it can be, the long awaited SRC-system (Schuberth Rider Communication system) can be integrated into the Schuberth helmet acoustic collar within minutes. This Bluetooth communication device has a wide range of functions including, rider-pillion intercom, mobile phone, MP3 and GPS connectivity, bike to bike intercom (up to 300m) and a built in radio. Come in store and check out this amazing technology from Schuberth helmets.

Love the Lid
I finally got one and was not disappointed, the reviews were right. The C4 Pro is comfortable, quiet and light. The SC1 intercom works well (although best connected before you set off).
Overall very happy with the purchase and Infinity were most helpful in fitting and sizing correctly in the shop.
First Class and worth the wait.
