Scorpion EXO-1400 Carbon - Plain
The Scorpion Exo 1400 Carbon Air is a sports-touring full-face with a lightweight, carbon-fibre shell, an efficient air ventilation system, and convenient internal sun visor.
The 1400 is Scorpion's first carbon full-face, boasting an extremely light, TCT structure with an aggressive shape and a gloss finish. This smart shell is able to gradually crumple on impact, which allows it to absorb most of the energy generated by the shock while retaining a strong structure that resists impact. Fitting perfectly into the specially-depressed area of the face shield, the Pinlock creates continuous air pressure through the compression force, which in turn stops condensation – and thus fogging – from occurring even when the temperature difference between the outside and the inside of the helmet increases.
An internal retractable sun visor eases eye strain instantly in varying light conditions without changing face shields, while the Airfit feature permits a rider to personalize helmet fit through air adjustable cheek pads with additional noise reduction.
The helmet also features a very effective, hypoallergenic, removable, machine washable, and very soft and pleasant to the touch, the KwikWick3 lining of the new ScorpionExo 2015 range is a real custom-made slipper for your head.

ScorpionExo® claim to be the next wave in motorcycle helmet design. Helmets are engineered by some very experienced helmet designers, with over 178 years of cumulative experience. Their wild, innovative graphic designs are created in hotbeds of extreme-sports creativity all over the world, from Europe to Southern California, to stay two steps ahead in this fast-moving field.
The Scorpion Sports factory, ‘The Big Nest’ is dedicated to crafting some of the world's best protective headgear. Almost every operation needed to create world-class helmets is located on this one amazing facility, including both fiberglass/Kevlar™ and polycarbonate shell moulding, EPS liner manufacturing, liner sewing, water-decal production, clean-room paint booths, drying rooms, assembly, packaging and shipping. This way the factory can monitor the quality and is not dependent on outside suppliers.
The American based company is relatively new to the UK market and has made a strong impact with the quality of its products. Features such as the Airfit system, which allows you to add pressure on the cheek pads, and their sprung visor mechanisms which help the visor seal against the shell keeping noise and drafts to a minimum all point to a quality product.
They’ve also done well in the Sharp test which proves their crash quality.
There are a number of full and open face models in the range as well as a great flip front. Obviously all Scorpion helmets met ECE22-05 and all have been approved by the TUV testing centre in Germany.

Okay but slightly disappointing helmet
The helmet is pretty light but noisy. The ventilation isn't too good either. My helmet has been sent for repair twice, first time was the inflating pump which broke and needed replacing. The other time was the visor seal which fell off. Overall, the helmet looks nice but it shouldn't have been sent for repair twice in 3 years. Also the pinlock which is fitted correctly is rubbing on the top of visor seal and makes it more difficult to lock it. The next time, I'll add a a bit more £££ and get a Shoei.
Great helmet but let down by build quality.
I love this helmet. Lightweight, comfortable, ok ventilation. Comes with two visors and pinlock. Only gave four stars as after a year, the visor mounts came loose and had to be repaired. Also the retaining lock on the tinted visor fell of as the screws worked loose. A shame as the quality let down an otherwise excellent lid.
The service I received in the York store when choosing this helmet was second to none. The helmet is extremely comfortable and light weight. It has much less wind noise than my previous EXO390 (although that was a great entry level helmet). The ventilation is very good and easily adjusted with gloves on. The double D ring fastening will take some getting used to as I have had a ratchet fastener previously. The visor and sun visor are also easily operated while wearing gloves. Overall I am delighted with this purchase.
Feels above the price range
Helmet itself fits and feels way above the price range. Unfortunately, I did test it in a way I am not recommending for anyone to test it. Even though I spent a week in ICU, no other brand exists for me now and I will definitely be treating myself to a new one once I am back on a bike. Oh, and big thanks to Belfast crew helping me to choose it just 3 days before the accident. Needless to say I am going to get all my gear from that shop.
Perfect full face helmet
I'd highly recommend the exo1400 air carbon to anyone looking for the perfect do it all full face helmet. It has every useful feature currently available all rolled into one beautifully crafted and super lightweight helmet. I bought a large, same size as my other two helmets from schuberth and x-lite and it fits perfectly without using the airfit system. Large is 1280grams which is super light especially as it has an in built drop down sun visor. In the box there is a free dark tint and a pin lock visor along with good quality helmet and spare visor bags. That's about £100 of freebies so At £250 all in this represents extremely good value for a top quality helmet. Buy one, you won't find better for anywhere near this price!
